Green Toilet Bowl Cleaner
This toilet bowl cleaner is ridiculously easy and awesome. It will probably be the first thing you want to do when you clean your bathroom, because you can let it sit and dissolve dirt while you clean other parts of the bathroom.
All you need is:
- 1/4 cup borax
- 1 cup vinegar
- 5-10 drops antibacterial essential oil (optional, I used lemon)
Just pour the borax, vinegar, and essential oils right into the toilet bowl. Close the lid and let it sit for at least 5 minutes. I let it sit for about an hour.
After waiting some time, take out the toilet brush and scrub. You all be amazed how easily the dirt loosens.
Yay for clean toilets! This toilet cleaner even got rid of that ring of grime under the top of the toilet. You know what I’m talking about. See how great it is:
And for our next green cleaner…
Green Grout Cleaner
All you need for the grout cleaner is:
- 1/2 cup baking soda
- 1/4 cup of vinegar
- 5 drops antibacterial essential oil (optional- I used lemon)
- a clean toothbrush, or grout brush if you have it
What you’ll want to do is just mix the ingredients together (pour the vinegar slowly- you don’t want a volcano on your hands!) until they form a paste. And then using your toothbrush, you will apply the paste to the grout.
You then can let it sit for about 5-10 minutes.
I cleaned off the toothbrush, and used it to scrub the grout cleaning paste off. I then wiped the rest off with a wet towel.
Here is what our dirty grout looked like before I cleaned it: And here is after:
I wasn’t expecting a miracle, because this building is almost 100 years old, and I’m not sure how old our grout is (obviously the bathroom has been updated during that time). And I’ve washed it before and can’t seem to get rid of all the spots.
But, this grout cleaner did work well and fade the spots a little. It didn’t get rid of them completely. And the parts that didn’t have dark spots on them are much whiter than before. I’m pretty pleased with it. It looks much better than before.
So, that’s part one of your green bathroom cleaners! Part two will be out next week!

Thanks for the cleaning recipes, as I am not interested in toxic chemicals, but don’t want to live in filth either.
