I tossed my inhaler into my personal item this past trip thinking “I’m way overpacking, I never need this unless I’m sick”. On my way home, my first flight was delayed and I had to SPRINT across the terminal to get to my plane the minute boarding was closing and had the worst asthma attack I have had in YEARS. Fortunately, I could pull my inhaler out of my personal item (they had to gate check my carry on due to limited space) and get on the plane instead of having to miss it due to the chance of needing medical intervention if the attack didn’t pass. I’m always that person with a giant coat on over my sweater or jacket because I use it as a blanket for my legs on the airplane so I can still feel my legs by the time we land. This post is everything I wish I had done years ago instead of thinking I could tough it out or be “normal” and not deal with the weird looks. Turns out, I get much fewer looks that I thought I would. All that stress and discomfort for nothing!

I have the same list and I included medication allergies, past surgeries and current diagnosis.

I’ve been wanting to get out more but I always need to bring my own food. This is all good advice, though. Thanks!

I’ve had a lot of good and bad travel days with my chronic illnesses, but it can be worth it.

That gives me extra room, it is normally quieter and I can get the air hostess to help if I need anything.

Internationally I try to get to the back of the plane. I am closer to the rest rooms and usually the ‘kitchen” where I can get up &a stretch and get beverages.

I’m traveling with a friend and having a hard time (stressing) over telling her that I may not be able to do everything she wants while we are in Las Vegas.

I also saw on my last trip how important it is to have something I can eat that I am not allergic to and can swallow when everyone around me is eating wonderful food that I can’t have. Smelling the fresh bread on my plane was the hardest part of flying, I had to hold my nose. I can still have coffee so I do feel blessed for that.
