Well, it’s been a long time coming. Our roommate moved out of the second bedroom in February (we still miss you Max!) and it only took us until the end of May to be done with the room. Except we still aren’t finished. I have another project in the works that we will be adding to this room, hopefully next week. So look forward to that!

Lars was looking over my shoulder when I was writing this post and made the most horrible noise looking at the before picture below. It cringes to make me think that the room looked like this at one point. When we first moved in, all that was in there was a twin mattress and a dresser. A little more than a month later we got the full sized bed. But for the first full month of this apartment the room literally looked like this:

Sorry, Max. And then for the next 6 or so months that Max lived there the room was full of boxes of shoes for Max’s job. Literally so full of boxes that he had to take boxes off the bed at night to sleep.

So although we miss having Max around, we love having the extra space for the guest room/ office. And not seeing all the boxes all the time.

So anyways, let’s take a peek inside what the room looks like today:

Above is the view you see from the doorway. You can see the pictures I made using my affordable artwork hack and the DIY file bench right away.

Next, the bed.

Lars’s mom made me the quilt as a graduation present. I am absolutely in love. She also gave us the picture frame, which she has been saving for us. Well, I thought it would look great hanging above the bed in lieu of a headboard, and I really do love how it looks there!

The orange pillows really bring out the small bits of orange in the quilt, and then tie into the boxes in the home office corner. We also have an adorable hedgehog night light on the nightstand courtesy of Per and Laura for a housewarming gift, and a cute vintage clock.

Now over to the opposite corner where the desk is.

Let me tell you, those floating shelves were more pain than they are worth. We are definitely building our own shelves instead of buying next time. And never putting floating shelves on a wall shared with the bathroom that contains plumbing. Don’t worry, we didn’t damage the plumbing in any way, but the irregularities in the wall because of the plumbing made hanging the shelves way more difficult than necessary.

But, they look great now. After only a ridiculous amount of work, one ruined shelf, patching drywall, buying the wrong color paint… Anyways. They’re great now. And useful for storage. guest-room-desk

The picture of the dog is the first piece of art I ever picked out. I got it at an art fair with my mom when I was about 14 and I’ve kept it ever since then. I love how it looks here. I also love the contrast of the white chair with the black desk.

Our organized little haven. I’ll be doing another post in the future on how we keep our office organized, so don’t worry about that. For me, it’s kind of a craft room/ office so it’s even got more going on.

Anyways, only 4 months in the making, the guest room/ office is finally (almost) done. Hope you like it!
